Vault Link
A Rust integrity checker for Obsidian vaults that finds broken links, stale work, missing hubs, frontmatter issues, and duplicates.
Overview
Vault Link is the quality gate for a Markdown knowledge base. It checks whether wikilinks resolve, whether active work has gone stale, whether projects have hubs, whether required frontmatter is present, and whether duplicate note stems could make references ambiguous.
The tool also includes an opt-in autolink workflow for adding project references to otherwise unlinked notes. Fixes can be previewed as a dry run, so a vault can be made more connected without turning a health check into an uncontrolled rewrite.
Methodology
Checks are modeled as independent diagnostics with severity-aware output. The default command runs the complete suite, while focused commands isolate links, orphans, stale notes, hubs, frontmatter, or autolinking. The code-project root is optional, so a vault can be checked without assuming a particular filesystem layout.
Repair operations are deliberately additive: autolink can set a project frontmatter field or append a visible project wikilink, and dry-run mode reports the prospective change first. This preserves existing note bodies and makes the mutation boundary reviewable.
What it does
- Broken wikilink and orphan-note detection
- Stale active-task and missing-project-hub checks
- Required frontmatter and duplicate-stem diagnostics
- Unlinked project-reference detection
- Additive autolink fixes for frontmatter or wikilinks
- Focused commands, verbose info checks, and dry-run mode
