Taskvault
A Rust CLI bridge for creating, finding, updating, and reviewing structured task, output, and project notes in Obsidian.
Overview
Taskvault gives terminal work a small, durable command surface over an Obsidian vault. It can list active tasks, recent outputs, and project hubs; create templated notes; fuzzy-find a note; update task status; and print paths for other tools to consume.
The goal is continuity across coding sessions and agents. Frontmatter carries status, project, priority, dates, and tags, while the note body remains ordinary Markdown that can still be read and edited directly in Obsidian.
Methodology
The CLI separates vault parsing from command behavior. A lightweight note parser reads YAML frontmatter and body content, directory helpers discover task/output/project notes, and formatters provide consistent terminal summaries without changing the Markdown representation.
Creation commands use dated, slugified filenames and project wikilinks, while status commands update only the intended frontmatter field and date. Fuzzy matching keeps commands ergonomic, but category-specific paths and explicit errors prevent an ambiguous or missing note from becoming a silent no-op.
What it does
- List active or all tasks and recent output notes
- List project hubs, including nested hub layouts
- Create dated task and output notes with frontmatter templates
- Fuzzy search, show, edit, open, and path commands
- Task status transitions with updated-date maintenance
- Vault summary for quick cross-project orientation
