Overview

Space Graph reframes a linked vault as a navigable system. Notes become asteroids, stars, planets, giant stars, or black holes according to link count, with folder color, tag overrides, filters, and previews providing a way to explore structure without reading every note first.

The plugin offers a rich Three.js 3D view and a lighter HTML5 Canvas 2D view. Both share the same classification and filtering model, while the 3D view adds an orbit camera, bloom, starfield, and free-roam controls.

Methodology

Graph connectivity is converted into configurable celestial tiers, with explicit tag overrides for notes that need a semantic classification independent of raw degree. Deterministic orbital seeding keeps hub satellites stable between renders, and a custom gravity layer is composed with d3-force to give the layout recognizable motion.

A shared filter model covers type, folder, tag, search, and link depth in both renderers. The 3D and 2D surfaces then specialize their interaction and rendering costs without duplicating the vault interpretation layer; native graph uncapping remains an opt-in compatibility feature.

What it does

  • Five configurable celestial node tiers with tag overrides
  • Three.js 3D graph with bloom, starfield, orbit camera, and free roam
  • HTML5 Canvas 2D graph with pan, zoom, gravity, and orbital controls
  • Shared type, folder, tag, search, and link-depth filtering
  • Click-to-open notes and hover previews
  • Deterministic orbital seeding and configurable gravity strength
  • Optional native graph-limit patches from Graph Scaler
