Overview

bridgebot connects two surfaces that are easy to let drift apart: an Obsidian vault containing project context and the git repositories containing the implementation. It watches both and reacts to changes with rules for links, staleness, frontmatter, notifications, and custom commands.

The daemon is designed for a solo developer workflow, but its event and action model keeps the behavior explicit. A one-shot run can be used from cron or a test harness, while the long-running daemon provides continuous maintenance.

Methodology

Filesystem events from inotify and git ref changes are normalized into rule inputs. Rules are configured declaratively with boolean-style triggers such as an active task exceeding a staleness threshold or a new output note being created, then dispatched to focused actions.

Actions are intentionally small and composable: notify the desktop, check links, backlink an output from its project hub, update frontmatter dates, or run a configured shell command. Config resolution is deterministic, and the daemon supports a one-shot, repeatable run for scheduled maintenance.

What it does

  • Vault file watching for creates, edits, and deletes
  • Git commit, branch, and ref-change monitoring
  • Declarative triggers for stale tasks, outputs, links, and commits
  • Desktop notifications for maintenance events
  • Automatic output backlinks and frontmatter date updates
  • One-shot rule execution for cron, testing, or recovery
